I will be the first to tell you that my wife listens to someone else a lot better then myself, but over the years I’ve learned a thing or two about teaching fly fishing to that special someone. But don’t ask my wife, because she won’t tell you that.

.

.

1. Make them feel good when you are fishing together: Most women are run by their emotions. When they feel good they like the situation, when they don’t they will remember the feelings and won’t want to do it again. Go out of your way to make them feel good while their fishing with you and they will want to do it again with you.

.

Liz launching the boat on the Green River, Ut

2. Don’t over or under teach: There is a fine line that men walk when teaching a women how to fly fish. The benefit you have is that you should already know what your wife or girlfriend likes and dislikes, so use that. In most cases don’t over teach unless they are asking you to…Questions are a good indication they want to learn.

.

3. Don’t spend all day on the river: If you can tell they are getting tired or board, its time to take a break or wrap things up.

.

.

Three Day Float/Camp trip in SE Idaho

.

4. Be equal: Even though your probably a lot better at fly fishing than your wife or girlfriend, don’t treat them that way.

.

5. Pay Attention to them to: Don’t get so focused on fishing that you close up and go into a world of your own. Women like to know that they are the most important part of a mans life, not second to fishing. (Even if that’s not always true)

.

6. Give them a job or something they can be in charge of. Lunch, Netting, Rowing, Camera. This will not only make them feel important, but also give them something to do if they don’t feel like fishing.

.

7. Get them looking good = Them feeling good. Fly Fishing Clothes are stylish enough for most women. Look at it this way they are better then a Camo Dale Earnhardt outfit.

.

8. Its ok to not catch fish…If the fishing isn’t red hot just hangout and talk…

.

9. Weather Matters: For fishermen bad weather is welcoming sign, but that is usaully not the case for someone new to the sport. Go on nice days that will make it feel good to be outside.

.

10. Don’t forget the bug spray, Clariton D, or anything else that could ruin a day Catching Some Rays on a Summer Float

.

.

Note : Not all women are on the same fly fishing level. Some are beginners and some are professional fly fishers and some just like to hangout and watch. So whatever level your special someone is, I hope this article helps you to get out with your loved one and enjoy the sport you love so much together.
